Parasitic Capacitance Effects in Step-Up Transformer Design

چکیده

One of the most critical components in a step-up design like Figure 1 is the transformer. Transformers have parasitic components that can cause them to deviate from their ideal characteristics, and the parasitic capacitance associated with the secondary can cause large resonating current spikes on the leading edge of the switch current waveform. These spikes can cause the regulator to exhibit erratic operating conditions that manifests itself as duty cycle instability. This effect is exacerbated in very high voltage designs. Attention to transformer design will cure this problem. Figure 2 shows the high frequency current paths of the parasitic capacitors. In the analysis of operation assume the input and output voltages are at AC ground. Thus, the parasitic capacitors are all in parallel. The transformer’s secondary provides the AC current path for these capacitors. The current flowing through the secondary produces N times the current in the primary. As the parasitic capacitance and turns ratio increase, the primary current becomes progressively larger.

High Step-up Converter with Transformerless Inverter for PV-Grid connected Power System

Photovoltaic(PV) systems are expected to play an important role in future energy production. An asymmetrical interleaved high step-up converter is used to get high step up gain to step up the input energy which is obtained from PV panel without operating at an extreme duty ratio. The traditional inverter which is used to convert the converter output energy from DC to AC, contains a line frequen...

A low phase-noise wide tuning range VCO is a critical building block in high-performance serial interface circuits. A negativeresistance cell that has a small effective parasitic capacitance combined with high-quality LC tanks are crucial for high quality VCOs. There have been several efforts to reduce the parasitic capacitance of the basic Armstrong structure [1,2] to improve the VCO performan...

Transformer and Inductor Design for Optimum Circuit Performance

The energy absorbed and released by transformer leakage inductances during each switching period usually ends up as loss, thus impairing switching power supply efficiency. Even when much of this energy is recycled and recovered through the use of resonant or active clamping techniques, leakage inductance remains as the main factor in cross-regulation errors among multiple outputs, a problem tha...

A Detachable Transformer with Microfabricated Secondary Coil for Powering MEMS Devices

Over the past two decades, microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) has evolved into a new discipline. As much progress has been achieved in fabricating discrete MEMS devices, complete systems-on-a-chip start to take form. It is desirable to develop a method to release MEMS chips from power supply tethering in order to give them some degree of autonomy, and allow implantation of devices in biomedi...
